‘Reverse ink painting’
Winston was painted in reverse, where the ink goes on and is slowly drawn out with a wet brush and dry towel; first the mid-tones are removed and then the highlights. So while Winston is an original painting, he is also an ‘un-painting’, his sweet form peering and appearing out of the dark.
